前置詞

前置詞（preposition）は in・on・at・to・for・with などの語で、名詞の前に置いて時・場所・方向・手段などの関係を表します。日本語にはない品詞のため学習者がつまずきやすく、TOEIC Part 5・6 でも頻出します。in / on / at の基本ルールと、動詞・形容詞と結びつく決まった前置詞（コロケーション）を押さえることが得点の近道です。
場所を表す in / on / at
at は「一点」を表します（at the door, at the reception）。on は「表面」や「階」を表します（on the shelf, on the third floor）。in は「空間の内部」を表します（in the office, in a corner）。
TOEIC のヒント：階は on the ... floor、建物や部屋の内部は in を使います。

決まった前置詞（コロケーション）
多くの動詞・形容詞・名詞は決まった前置詞と結びつくため、意味からではなく「セット」で覚える必要があります：interested in, responsible for, depend on, deal with, comply with, in charge of, according to。
TOEIC Part 5 ではこれらのコロケーションが頻出します。見慣れた動詞・形容詞が出たら、日本語訳から推測せず、結びつく前置詞をそのまま思い出しましょう。

よくある間違い
- ✗場所の in / on / at を取り違える（例：in the third floor ではなく on the third floor）。
- ✗前置詞を日本語から直訳してしまう（セットのコロケーションで覚えていない）。
- ✗動詞・形容詞と結びつく前置詞を間違える（depend of ではなく depend on）。
- ✗決まり文句で前置詞を落とす（responsible the project ではなく responsible for）。

場所の in / on / at はどう使い分けますか？
at は一点（at the door）、on は表面や階（on the shelf, on the second floor）、in は空間の内部（in the room, in the office）を表します。
なぜ日本人学習者は前置詞が苦手なのですか？
日本語に前置詞という品詞がなく、英語の前置詞と一対一で対応しないためです。意味で考えるより「interested in」「responsible for」のようにコロケーションで覚えるのが効果的です。
