Toey vs Migii for JLPT: Mock Tests, Scores and Price Compared

The short answer

Pick Migii if you want a native phone app, live trial exams against other learners, and the lowest yearly price. Pick Toey if you want to study in the browser on any device, see a predicted score on the 180-point scale that also flags a failed section, and keep mocks, a study plan, SRS review and kanji writing in one place. Both apps score mocks on the 180-point scale, so that alone should not decide it.

What each one is

Migii JLPT is an all-in-one JLPT prep app from EUP Technology in Vietnam. It has full timed mock tests from N5 to N1, skill tests, a study roadmap and a built-in dictionary. It also runs periodic online trial exams with a leaderboard, so you can sit a mock at the same time as other learners and see where you rank. It is on iOS and Android, and it has a web mock-test page.

Toey JLPT is a web app. You open it in a browser on a phone, tablet or laptop and nothing needs installing. It has 140 timed mock papers from N5 to N1, a weekly study plan, SRS review for vocabulary and kanji, and kanji writing practice. After each mock it shows a predicted score on the 180-point scale.

Where Migii is stronger

Native apps. Migii lives on your home screen, and the App Store and Google Play handle billing and updates. Toey does not have a mobile app yet. It works in a phone browser, but if you prefer a real app, that matters.

A much bigger community. Over a million Android downloads and tens of thousands of reviews mean many other learners have tested Migii before you. Toey does not publish user numbers.

Live trial exams. Sitting a mock at a fixed time with other people, then seeing a leaderboard, is close to the pressure of exam day. Toey has nothing like this.

Price. Migii's yearly plan is $29.99 to $43.99 on the US App Store. Toey's yearly plan is $64.99. If you only want mock tests for a year, Migii costs less.

More mocks on Premium. Third-party listings show more full mocks on Migii Premium than Toey's 140. We could not count them ourselves, so treat the exact number as unconfirmed.

Where Toey is different

It runs anywhere, with nothing to install. Toey is a website. A shared computer, a work laptop, a tablet, a phone: if it has a browser, you can take a mock and continue where you stopped.

The score checks every section, not just the total. The real JLPT has two rules: your total must reach the pass mark, and each section must reach its own minimum. A learner can clear the total and still fail because one section sank below its minimum. Toey's predicted score applies both rules, so a mock with a passing total and a sunk section is reported as a fail. That is the result you would get on the day, so it is the one worth seeing in practice.

The scoring is fixed rules, not AI. Toey computes the predicted score the same way every time from your answers, using fixed scoring rules. It is still an estimate, not an official JLPT result, and your real score can differ.

Mocks, plan and review in one place. After a mock, the weekly study plan, SRS review and kanji writing practice are in the same app. Migii has a roadmap and vocabulary and kanji study, but we could not confirm that it uses SRS, and its handwriting is a dictionary input rather than a writing drill.

A free tier you can measure. On Toey, all of the N5 study content is free, and you get one free full mock at every level, N5 to N1. Be careful with the common summary "N5 is free on Toey": it is true for the N5 study content, but only one N5 mock is free. The rest of the 140 papers need Pro.

Price in plain numbers

  • Toey JLPT Pro: $12.99 per month or $64.99 per year. The yearly plan has a 7-day free trial; the monthly plan does not. One-time passes cost $24.99 for 3 months and $39.99 for 6 months, and Lifetime is $149.
  • Migii (US App Store): 3 months $28.49–28.99, 1 year $29.99–43.99, Lifetime $119.99. Google Play lists items from $5.49 to $169.99.

Store prices change, and Migii shows different prices on different stores, so check the store before you buy.

Who should pick which

Pick Migii if:

  • you want a native iOS or Android app;
  • you like live trial exams and a leaderboard;
  • price matters most and you plan to study for a full year;
  • you want the app most other learners already use, with many reviews to read.

Pick Toey if:

  • you study on several devices, or on a computer where you cannot install apps;
  • you want the predicted score to fail you when one section is too low, the way the real exam does;
  • you want mocks, a weekly plan, SRS review and kanji writing in one place;
  • you want to try a full mock at your level for free before paying anything.

Use both if you can. Taking a mock on each and comparing the two predicted scores is a cheap way to check how stable your result is. If the two disagree by a lot, trust neither alone and take another mock.

How we checked

Checked on 18 October 2026. Toey's numbers come from our own product fact sheet, which the founder confirmed on that date. Migii's prices and ratings come from the US App Store and Google Play listings, and its mock-test details from jlpt.migii.net. Migii's 180-point scoring comes from an r/jlpt thread dated 11 October 2026 in which learners compare Migii results on that scale. We did not take a paid Migii mock, so its Premium test count and free-tier limits are marked as not confirmed. Toey is the publisher of this post, so read it with that in mind and try both.

Frequently asked questions

Is Toey or Migii better for JLPT mock tests?

It depends on how you study. Migii has native iOS and Android apps, a very large user base, live online trial exams and a cheaper yearly plan. Toey is a web app with 140 timed papers from N5 to N1, a predicted score on the 180-point scale with a check of every section minimum, plus a study plan, SRS review and kanji writing in the same place.

Does Migii give a score on the 180-point JLPT scale?

Yes. Learners compare Migii mock results on the 180-point scale, and its web mock page shows a pass point of 80 for N5. Toey also predicts a score on the 180-point scale, so neither app is the only one that does this.

Which is cheaper, Toey or Migii?

Migii's yearly plan on the US App Store costs $29.99 to $43.99, depending on the option. Toey JLPT Pro costs $12.99 a month or $64.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan only. Toey also sells 3-month and 6-month passes and a $149 Lifetime plan. Prices were checked on 18 October 2026.

What is free on Toey JLPT?

All of the N5 study content is free, and you get one free full mock test at each level, N5 to N1. Only one N5 mock is free, not every N5 mock. The other 135 papers need Pro.

Is Toey's predicted JLPT score an AI guess?

No. Toey computes the predicted score with fixed scoring rules, not AI. It is still an estimate of how you might score on the real exam, not an official result.

Does Toey have a mobile app?

Not yet. Toey runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer with nothing to install. If you want a native app from the App Store or Google Play, Migii is the better fit today.
