How IELTS Writing is scored
Your Writing band combines both tasks, with Task 2 weighted twice as much as Task 1. So a 6.0 on Task 1 and a 7.0 on Task 2 gives (6 + 14) ÷ 3 = 6.67, which rounds to a 6.5. Because Task 2 counts double, improving the essay usually moves your band the most.
