Why do Academic and General Training have different tables?+
General Training Reading texts are more everyday and generally easier, so the conversion is stricter — you need more correct answers for the same band. Academic Reading is more demanding, so its cut-offs are lower.
How many correct answers is a band 7 in Reading?+
On Academic Reading, around 30 out of 40 is a band 7. On General Training you need about 34 out of 40 for the same band 7.
Is there a penalty for wrong answers?+
No. Every question is worth one mark and wrong answers are not penalised, so you should always fill in an answer for every question.
